The party’s over at Pleasure Island: Disney to shut down 6 nightclubs — OrlandoSentinel.com

This is sad news for me.  I haven’t been to PI in years, but I have some very fond memories of the place.  The first time I went was right after it opened in August 1989.  It was a trip with Tammy (we were dating at the time), Tammy’s sister and my brother.  We went into the Adventurer’s Club and looked around, and we just walked around the Island but it was new and with the opening of Disney-MGM Studios and the Grand Floridian and Caribbean Beach, it was the start of the “Disney Decade” and it was exciting.  Like the start of something great.

My next visit was in June 1990, when I took a trip to WDW with my family, my cousin Marc and Tiffany’s friend Stephanie.  I was the only one old enough to go in any of the clubs, so I went in the Zephyr Rock n’ Roll Beach Club for a little while.  I was too scared to ask anyone to dance (mainly because I can’t dance, and I’m incredibly shy).  But it made me feel grown up.  I also (literally and accidently) ran into Neil Patrick Harris that night.  At least neither one of us fell over 🙂

Then, when I was on the College Program in 1991, we went often and had a great time.  In fact, one of the top 5 days of my life involved Mannequins, ever so briefly.

After I moved to Orlando, the trips to PI decreased greatly.  But the Art of Disney on PI was a must stop location when we were in the area.

At least I have my memories..
