Verdict on NASCAR 09

June 16th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I think I’ve decided to not purchase NASCAR 09, even though Jeff Gordon is all over the game.  Here’s why:  I downloaded the demo from Xbox Live and I raced the two races that are offered and I don’t like it.  The problem with last year’s game was that it was almost impossible to drive the cars.  Heck…I had problems getting off pit road.  Well, I guess the geniuses at EA listened to the complaining because the default for this year’s game is “normal,” which is so easy, my 3-year old daughter could play it and win.  And the “pro” setting is impossible.  There’s no happy medium.

The handling is one thing, but the other reason I’m not going to get it is simply because it’s boring.  You drive in circles lap after lap.  There’s no excitement.  Project Gotham, Forza, Gran Turismo are all great games and it’s because you have many choices in cars, how they handle, different tracks and locations and different goals.  I’m done with playing NASCAR games.  I’ll still be a fan of the league and follow the races, but I’m not going to sit there and hold the steering controller to the left while I mash down the throttle.

Of course, if Digichrome tries it and likes it, then of couse I’ll buy it so we can race against each other.  🙂.
